The grammar lesson in these videos flowed seamlessly from one task to the next and Catherine made teaching seem effortless. I admired the way she gave individual attention to the students during monitoring and feedback. She was very positive in correcting students, for example, "It is better not to say... . It's better to say... ." If a student did not know the answer, she asked the other students if they could help rather than giving them the answers.
CCQs were a big part of this lesson and the students benefited greatly. I liked the idea for the freer practice as it helped to solidify what she had taught, and everyone was using the target language at the end of the session.
I gained a lot from this video which reinforced what I have learnt from my CELTA course. I will use this as a guide for my next grammar lesson.

Here is the second observation video:

It is a grammar lesson. Please comment on the video here in the forum and log this lesson as 60 minutes on p. 11 in your CELTA 5.

Like Anthony mentioned, I really enjoyed seeing the monitoring techniques that were used in the video. Also, the diversity of the class mirrored our groups of students, which was reassuring to say the least. I'll select an appropriate 'steal' in my next comment.

I learned some really great monitoring techniques from the video. Like Sharon, I was impressed by his ability to pull errors from the Ss conversations and use them to teach some grammar applicable grammar in feedback. This guy seemed incredibly comfortable throughout his lesson. I really enjoyed the matching game and would like to steal that activity. It will join Shark Man in the annals of great CELTA activities.

/oʊ maɪ gɒd/ ! (trying bit of a Brit accent here =) Hahaha!
This is exactly why our friend Seth has decided to take this course! - To prevent this sort of non-sensical, unnecessary catastrophes! Thank you for sharing Chris! ~ Comment on "German Coast Guard Trainee" video.

There were a lot of good ideas in the video. I too, Windsome, will steal how he ends a task ! Thank you! Thank you! I like that because I feel like the Ss feel appreciated. He also holds the attention of the students well with his intonation.

There were a lot of good ideas to take from this lesson, but I learned a lot from the way that the teacher used the board. He had it set up with the questions and even the beginning of the answers before he even started the lesson. Also, he used his time effectively by setting up the board while students were still doing pair check.

I'd like to steal his method for error correction. Almost every time he monitored, he listened to the students, found things that needed to be corrected, and put it up on the board immediately.
