Phonology Resources

Hi everyone!

Here are some useful tips for learning the phonemic chart and adding phonemes to your lesson plans:
1) Download the FREE "Sounds" app by Macmillan. You can test yourself on the symbols as you commute to school (unless you walk in which case watch where you're going!)
2) The E-lang phonemic typewriter is a useful resource. You can click the symbols, copy and paste them into your lesson plans and assignments.  Make sure you change the font in Word to "Lucida Sans Unicode" to preserve the format of the phonemic symbols.

3) Once you are familiar with the chart, this is a useful site as well but don't trust it 100%!  Sometimes it doesn't reflect natural connected speech.  Make sure the "Show weak forms" box is clicked!!!

Happy transcribing!
