Bringing the World Closer
Hello everyone! Congratulations on completing your first task: successfully logging in to the MyTeachingHouse.com site!
We are presently developing Generation 2 of the MyTeachingHouse site. It’s a great resource both on the course and after the course (in finding work and keeping up with friends you’ve made during the course). As this site is under development, we’d appreciate any feedback or suggestions that you have.
I have a few more tasks for you to complete—it may take about an hour or two. Please read the instructions below and complete it before Monday.
Directions: All written answers must be posted on this thread (First Assignment) within the discussion forum in your course group. Since there are many of you, it's important to post only on this thread (click "Reply to This" at the bottom) so that we can keep the forum from getting full and messy-looking. However, if you have any other comments or questions you are welcome to start a new thread.
1. If you haven’t already, edit your profile with your current location, status and photo
2. Browse through our international directory of English language schools (hover over "RESOURCES" in the toolbar at the top of the page and click "SCHOOL DIRECTORY" ). Post the name of a school that you think you might be interested in applying to after the course, and (briefly) why you liked that school.
3. Go to Course Forms and find a word from one of the glossaries that you do not know.
4. Post one idea or recommendation for MyTeachingHouse.com.
5. Post a personal goal related to taking our Teaching House CELTA course.
6. Post a comment about someone else’s comments, for example, “Lizzy, I agree with your comment about the job listings section…” or “Abby, I saw that you wanted to work in Paris. I was thinking about that myself—is it hard to find work in France?” If you're one of the first people to post, come back later with a comment after your peers have caught up.
Good luck and keep coming back to My Teaching House!

2. My husband and I will be relocating to Nagoya, Japan, this fall. I chose ECC as a possible place to apply because it has several options of age groups and types of settings to work in. I would like to work with children at least part of the time, so a school that includes young clients is important to me.
3. I do not know what Cuisenaire Rods are.
4. I noticed that the job listings don't seem to be cleared out very often; when I searched for job listings in Japan, some of the listings were from as far back as June 2011. Perhaps this could be updated more often.
5. My personal goals related to the CELTA course are to become comfortable teaching ESL in a variety of settings to a variety of students, and to be able to find a job in Japan upon completion.
2. Elite Educational Institute might be a school I would apply to. I would have the opportunity to teach adult learners and the school seems to be growing. Furthermore, there are locations both locally and in South Korea, which I am considering teaching once more.
3. The term 'back-chaining' is new to me and I am unsure of how to teach this method.
4. I would like to have been able to read more articles about Teaching House in the testimonial section. Any other reviews would have been that much more helpful.
5. I have a few personal goals, however, I quite simply want the opportunity to teach in front of adults and have the ability to help them meet their language goals.
6. Alixandra, I also want to find a job abroad (Korea or otherwise) and I hope that the CELTA course will help me find one that best satisfies my new career goals. I have a couple of friends that have worked in Japan and I can ask some questions about their experiences if you like.
