Also, if you need to brush up on or want extra clarification on any number of aspects of CELTA teaching and/or input session topics, have a peak at this link and the videos therein. Jo is a CELTA trainer in the UK - she's not us, but as far as I know there aren't any *major* differences at all between how she describes, say, concept checking questions, and how we do. Again, don't think I'm laying MORE on you here - this is all extra support that is simply there for you to access when and if you like. :)
Have a great rest of your weekend...:)
Our resource cabinet has plenty of books with materials for extra activity time. There are two binders with 'Reward Resource Pack' ones. Very nice, as Borat might say. There's an Upper-Int and Pre-Int level book in those binders. Just thought I'd share a folder with the PDF for the Elementary-level Reward Resource book. This might be good for the Pre-Int class....because with these types of fluency-focused activity short lessons, it's usually better that the materials is relatively easy. Just an extra resource. Oops, I forgot to actually link to the PDF in my previous message. It's here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6s45WWdJGrceUlGVzBrRmd6Y2M/view?u...
Here's a PDF of Swan & Smith's 'Learner English'. This will be extremely helpful for your FOL assignment & for anticipating problems generally. For situating grammar errors you find in the written sample, 'Keys to Teaching Grammar' by Keith Folse can also be helpful (its in the materials cabinet).
Hello folks.
Tomorrow morning's input sessions are Receptive Skills 2 (w/ Kimberly) and Phonology 1 (w/ Me). I just wanted to send out an *optional* *extra* bit here that might be helpful if want a little preview of sorts.
It's a 37-minute video by a great CELTA trainer named Jo very clearly and nicely laying down the basics about understanding the phonemic chart and the sounds of English.
Again...totally extra - maybe something to throw on in the background while you chow down, or just to flip through a bit before bed? If you have time/inclination. Or not at all! We shall discover the wonders of pholology tomorrow morning, either way.
Here it is: http://elttraining.mdl2.com/mod/page/view.php?id=208
PS - occasionally (maybe a couple times?) I'll be posting something like this - just optional pre-session materials, always light fare; videos, websites - before an input session. Of course it'll also work as review stuff/something extra if you're bored on the weekend and have your assignment and lesson plans all sorted out, or as extra depth in an area you're particularly interested in and wanna pay extra attention to.
Righto - have a nice evening...
Matthew
Congrats to everyone for *not dying* during/after TP1s today. You're officially on the CELTA course now and you're officially a TEACHER (in training). Well done! One down, 8 to go...:)
