Just introduce yourself well at the beginning and get on with the lesson. We don't need to spend any substantial amount of time doing community-building, and yes, the unassessed slots can take care of some of that anyway. As always, focus on using your time to ensure the main and sub learning aims of your lesson are well met :)

Nancy, I'm doing the 20 minute unassessed on Thursday and I was planning on doing an ice breaker mini-lesson, just to keep in mind when you're planning your lesson.

Matthew,
For TP6, I am giving the first lesson. Since there may be new students and the students are all new to the teachers and vice versus, should I include an ice breaker at the beginning? Time wise, this could impact me completing my lesson plan and I don't want to step over the fact that there could be several new faces in the room, including new students. I thought the first person teaching TP 6 on Wednesday, may be faced with this as well.

I would like to ask the Monday/Wednesday group any information or suggestions that you may have about working with this particular Pre Intermediate group. I am happy to speak to anyone who will be inheriting our Upper Intermediate group. I left name tags for the Upper Intermediate group (including name tags for each teacher) with Kimberly. We frequently experienced having unexpected new students walk into the lesson late. Our solution for what became an anticipated problem was to create name tags for all the Ss and TS and to have blank tags for people walking in. We would give them a marker to write their name and had them introduce themselves to the whole class at an appropriate break in the exercise or conversation. We invited them to join a group when they walked in and had the group bring this new Ss up to speed.. We also experienced having several of the students that started the course, not returning to class. It was a challenge learning Ss names. Over time, there is a core group of 4 Ss. The Ss have been well trained in picking up their name tag on the way to their seat. We put the name tags on one of the high seats (bar stools) just inside the door.

The context is the Tide thefts and one of possible reasons why people are stealing Tide could be in reaction to the economy.

Can I get a quick show of hands about the LRT assignment? Who thinks the context of the text is Tide thefts versus a bizarre example of people's desperation due to the bad economy?

Okay, great. Thank you both!

I confirmed that the LRT is due next Wednesday/Thursday with Kimberly and Patti.

Hey Megan,

I also have this coming Wednesday/Thursday (4/8 & 4/9).

Hi everyone! When is the LRT due? I wrote down that it's due Wednesday/Thursday of next week, but I'm not sure if any of the trainers confirmed that.
