"Music is the movement of sound to reach the soul for the education of its virtues." -- Plato

I have always been interested in pursuing education as a career and because I grew up taking music lessons, I was eager to graduate with a degree in music education.

I have been teaching private piano and strings lessons for the past 4 years now and I can say that it has been a great journey building relationships with many of the families I've become close to. One thing that I've noticed with the parents that I've gotten to know is -- CONSISTENCY. These parents understand how important consistency is within a specific craft and I am so grateful that these parents truly "get it." Because teaching takes up a lot of time on the weekends, I also try and set time aside from my own musical growth and knowledge.

In addition to teaching music, I work within the Arts Department as the Art Department Programming Coordinator for Sports and Arts in Schools Foundation. My department dedicates time to curriculum development, professional development for our unique teaching artists, collaborates with other organizations and partnerships and plans many events throughout school year. More over, I work closely with many of our music programs and is always looking for ways to promote music in schools!

I believe after-school programs play a vital role in student success- it's transformative! I trust that children and youth who participate in after-school programs can reap a host of positive benefits in a number of interrelated outcome areas-- academic, social/emotional, prevention and health and wellness. Quality programs don't just happen-- the coordination among after -school and school-day staff is essential, and is district, neighborhood and family support.

Aside from music, I have always been interested in History and English. It took me a few months to really think about taking the CELTA course and achieving my certification to teach English as a second language. Not only will this add to my teaching experience and career but it will also advance my grammar, writing and speaking skills. English is not an easy language to grasp sometimes and so I'm excited to be able to help others understand and communicate through a language that is not their native.
