In May 2011, I graduated magna cum laude with a BA in English Fiction Writing and a Certificate in Children’s Literature at the University of Pittsburgh. As an undergraduate, I worked as a teaching assistant in both lower- and upper-level English literature courses. Upon graduation, I volunteered as a teacher through the Carnegie Library’s ‘Let’s Speak English’ program, where I led discussion tables for adults, and as an ESL tutor through the Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council. From August 2012 through June 2013, I taught English as a second language in a Slovak high school through the Fulbright Program. The CELTA is an ideal opportunity for me to improve my English teaching skills, as well as to enable me to connect with and learn about other cultures around the world.
