I spent two-and-a-half years pursuing a master’s degree in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy.
I lived in three countries, and had 15 classmates of 12 different nationalities -- of those 15, there were three Americans, myself included. Of those three Americans, I was the one chosen by my international peers to help them write and edit their papers, and asked to correct any errors in their spoken English as I heard them speak (regardless of where we were or what we were doing).
It was during those moments I realized how much I truly enjoy teaching, and how much patience I have in repeatedly correcting the same mistakes, or figuring out how to make something stick with a non-native speaker.
In all honesty, I have been searching for that sense of purpose since I finished my studies and moved back to the United States -- but I wholeheartedly believe I have found it again.
Ultimately, I just want to teach -- whether it involves assisting someone in developing their professional English, or sharing cultural attributes for a better understanding of our respective cultures.
I truly feel that the CELTA certification will help me achieve all of these goals, and will give me the opportunity to further my impact on the international community.
